The Witchy Type Book Review:

Ah, The Witches Workshop: A guide to Crafting your own Magical tools – I was excited to receive this in post. It’s sturdy and well made and the illustrations are printed to a very high standard, so we’re already winning when it comes to the sensory experience. Now, regarding its contents, from the author of The Witch’s Feast, it’s a fully illustrated, comprehensive introduction to the handicrafts of witchcraft. Through over 60 craft projects, it promises to help you learn all the techniques you need to create your personalised magical toolkit. Sounds fabulous to be honest, and flicking through the pages a few crafts already caught my attention. Magic Ink? Candles, you say?…I’m listening.

Considering myself a crafty type of person (A lot of Pisces in this birth chart) I decided to get to work on reviewing its contents and choosing a project or two to try (more content on this in later posts).  Fortunately, it’s an in-depth guide, accompanied by step-by-step images, so it wasn’t too hard to get to grips with some of the more simple craft projects, but some ingredients required maybe require more effort than a trip to your local store but not too hard to come by.

The book is split into 7 categories which adds to the fun:

Incense, including kyphi temple incense, which once billowed from the temples of ancient Egypt, to house blessing incense for cleansing any new home.

Inks, including dragon’s blood ink and botanical drawing charcoals.

Oils, such as flying ointment or the world’s first known chemist Tapputi’s royal salve.

Natural dyes for creating stunning eco-printed ritual gowns or a spring equinox altar tablecloth.

Papers, like Japanese knotweed paper or autumn equinox corn husk paper.

Powders essential for rituals and spells such as scrying powder and banishing salt.

Candles of all shapes and types, including poured, dipped and molded.

I really enjoyed this book and found myself returning to it a lot so I recommend it as an addition to any witchy library and as a gift.

Well researched and full of knowledge, it advises how you can create altars, rituals and spells that are targeted to your intention, personal and in touch with your natural environment.

Are you a crafty witch or aspire to be? If so let us know below or via our social channels and of course, make sure to share your project recommendations as we certainly are getting into our craft zone this Spring! Watch this space for more posts on the crafts from A Witches Workshop as we continue to delve into the projects.

Until next time, darlings!

The Spells Intentions:

I wanted a spell that would pay homage to energies that I was working with to help encourage love, wealth and abundance to flow towards me. I love to do these hearthy spells regularly as they help me cleanse negative energies away but also helps me bring positive good energy in…and I get to eat delicious food, so yey!

  • So when constructing the recipe I pulled from what I want I want to achieve
  • I set my intentions and wrote them down
  • I wrote my recipe based on my intentions e.g Herbs that bring wealth..
  • I started to make the recipe at the perfect time of day – in this case in the evening when I usually do larger spells (I just love to work at night, you know?)

Anyway here she is the recipe in all her glory:

Setting your Spell Intentions:

Here are some ways that you can supercharge your spell.

  • Perform the spell work at specific times, dates and moon phases to further empower the spell – just research what works best for what you are trying to manifest.

Ways that Witches use Cheese in Witchcraft

As you know I am all about educating when it comes to witchcraft but I also really love talking about cheese … .so here are some ways that witches can use cheese in their Witchcraft.

In witchcraft, various ingredients, including cheese, can be used in spells and rituals based on their magical properties and symbolism. While cheese may not be as commonly discussed as some other ingredients, it can be employed in witchcraft in several ways:

  • Offerings to Deities: In some pagan or deity-specific practices, cheese may be offered as a gift to certain gods or goddesses. The choice of cheese can vary depending on the deity’s associations or preferences.
  • Kitchen Witchcraft: Kitchen witches often work with ingredients readily available in the kitchen, including cheese. Depending on the type of cheese and its attributes, it can be incorporated into spells or rituals. For example, cheddar cheese might be used for prosperity or yellow cheese for happiness.
  • Binding Spells: Cheese, particularly soft and moldable varieties like Brie or

Camembert, can be used in binding spells. You might symbolically bind two individuals or energies together, perhaps in a spell to promote unity or strengthen a relationship.

  • Divination: In some divination practices, cheese can be used as a tool for scrying or interpretation. The patterns or holes in certain types of cheese may be interpreted symbolically.
  • Feast Celebrations: Cheese can be included in celebrations, feasts, or Sabbat rituals as an offering or as part of a larger ritual meal. For example, it could be offered during a harvest festival to honour the abundance of the season.
  • Symbolism: The type and colour of the cheese can be chosen for its symbolism in a particular spell. White cheese may represent purity, while blue cheese may symbolise transformation or change.
  • Altar Decorations: Cheese can be used as an altar decoration to represent the earth element. You might place cheese, along with other food items, on your altar to honour the harvest, fertility, or abundance.

When using cheese or any other ingredient in witchcraft, it’s essential to consider the magical properties and symbolism associated with that ingredient. Also, personal intent and intuition play a significant role in crafting effective spells and rituals. As with any magical practice, it’s essential to respect the beliefs and traditions of your own path and those of others.

So have I inspired you to go and get your cook in the kitchen and work some magick? Or do you have a recipe or a ritual that you want to share with us? If so let us know below in the comment or via our social channels as we love to hear from you.

Pumpkin Spice Magic: A Delectable Blend of History, Folklore, and Witchcraft

We’re exploring the history of pumpkin spice, its intriguing ties to witchcraft, and how it’s become an essential part of our seasonal rituals

Spooky Season: It’s that time again.

As the crisp winds of autumn sweep through the land, a familiar aroma fills the air, beckoning us with its warm, comforting embrace. It’s the enchanting scent of pumpkin spice, a blend that transcends the boundaries of flavors and invokes the essence of Autumn and mania in shopping aisles. Today, we’re exploring the rich history of pumpkin spice, its intriguing ties to folklore and witchcraft, and how this magical mixture has become an essential part of our seasonal rituals and coffee orders.

The Origins of Pumpkin Spice:

Pumpkin spice, that delightful combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger, traces its roots back to ancient civilizations. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg were highly prized in ancient Egypt and India, not only for their culinary uses but also for their medicinal and mystical properties.

Pumpkin Spice: Folklore and Harvest Celebrations:

The association between pumpkin spice and folklore can be traced to the autumn harvest festivals celebrated by various cultures. Pumpkins, as a quintessential fall crop, were often featured prominently in these celebrations. The spices used in pumpkin spice blends were believed to have protective and purifying qualities. In some traditions, these spices were sprinkled around homes to ward off malevolent spirits and ensure a bountiful harvest.

How Witches Use Pumpkin Spice:

Witches have long appreciated the power of herbs and spices in their magical practices. Pumpkin spice, with its warm and grounding properties, is a favorite among modern witches for several reasons:

Seasonal Connection: Pumpkin spice is closely tied to the autumn season when the veil between worlds is believed to be thin. It aligns with the earthy, grounding energies of Autumn, making it an ideal addition to spells and rituals during this time.

Harmony and Balance: The spices in pumpkin spice, individually and collectively, promote balance, harmony, and warmth. Witches use it to create a harmonious atmosphere in their homes and rituals.

Transformation and Transition: Autumn is a season of change, and pumpkin spice embodies the transformative energy of this season. Witches utilise it to facilitate personal growth and navigate life’s transitions.

Connection with Ancestors: Pumpkin spice’s popularity during holidays like Samhain and Halloween also makes it a potent tool for connecting with ancestors and spirit guides.

Comfort and Hearth Magic: The warm, comforting scent of pumpkin spice can create a cozy atmosphere conducive to meditation, divination, or simply relaxing by the hearth.

Protection and Purification: Individual spices within pumpkin spice, such as cinnamon and cloves, are known for their protective and purifying qualities, making them valuable tools in warding off negative energies.

Enhancing Psychic Abilities: Nutmeg, another component of pumpkin spice, is associated with enhancing psychic abilities and intuition, making it a valuable addition to divination practices.

Further Uses For Pumpkin Spice:

Beyond its magical properties, pumpkin spice has become a beloved flavor of the Autumn season. From lattes to candles, this aromatic blend has permeated our daily lives and rituals. Here are a few lifestyle elements where pumpkin spice shines:

  • Culinary Delights: Pumpkin spice finds its way into a wide array of dishes, from pies and muffins to soups and cookies. It’s a comforting and indulgent flavor that reminds us of the harvest season.
  • Aromatherapy: Pumpkin spice-scented candles and essential oils offer a delightful way to infuse our homes with the cozy ambiance of Autumn.
  • Self-Care Rituals: Many incorporate pumpkin spice into self-care routines, whether through homemade face masks, bath salts, or even as an ingredient in natural perfumes

Pumpkin spice, with its deep historical roots, ties to folklore, and its embrace by modern witches, has become a symbol of autumn’s magic. As you savor that pumpkin spice latte or light a pumpkin spice candle, remember the ancient wisdom and enchantment this delightful blend carries with it. Whether you’re indulging in a seasonal treat or infusing your witchcraft with its warm essence, pumpkin spice is a reminder that the magic of the season is always at hand.

October 14th, 2023 Solar Eclipse in Libra and Its Mystical Significance

October 14th, 2023, promises to be of profound astrological significance—the Solar eclipse in Libra. Let’s unlock the secrets of this lunar eclipse together.

The night of October 14th, 2023, promises a celestial spectacle of profound astrological significance—the Solar eclipse in Libra. This enchanting event marks a harmonious alignment in the cosmos, inviting us to delve into the mysteries of the moon, its role in witchcraft, and the reasons behind the cautionary whispers against manifestation during eclipse season. Let’s unlock the secrets of this eclipse seson together..

The Moon’s Timeless Enchantment:

Since day dot, the moon has been a celestial beacon, captivating human hearts and souls. This radiant orb, Earth’s celestial companion, has symbolised femininity, intuition, and the cyclical nature of existence. In ancient cultures worldwide, the moon was revered as a deity, with goddesses like Artemis, Diana, and Selene embodying its nurturing and transformative energies. Eh, I love the moon SO much.

The Moon’s Crucial Role in Witchcraft:

Witches have always recognized the moon’s unparalleled power in their craft. Lunar phases are the very heartbeat of magical practice, offering distinct energies for spellcasting and manifestation:

  • New Moon: A clean slate for beginnings and intentions.
  • Waxing Moon: A time of growth and manifestation.
  • Full Moon: A peak of energy and culmination, a time for thanks and celebration. Even a time to let go.
  • Waning Moon: A phase for releasing and banishing.

The Solar Eclipse in Libra: A Dance of Balance and Transformation.

A Solar eclipse unfolds when the moon passes between the Earth and the sun, momentarily blocking the sun’s light and casting a shadow on our planet. This phenomenon results from the precise alignment of the sun, moon, and Earth in a straight line, with the moon’s shadow being cast onto the Earth’s surface. There are two primary types of solar eclipses: a total solar eclipse, where the sun is completely obscured by the moon, and a partial solar eclipse, where only a portion of the sun is covered. During a total solar eclipse, the sky darkens, and the sun’s corona, a halo of superheated gas, becomes visible.

On October 14th, 2023, this eclipse occurs in the sign of Libra.

Libra, ruled by Venus, seeks harmony, balance, and justice. It invites us to find equilibrium within ourselves and our relationships, embracing change while preserving our inner harmony. Remember to research your specific birth chart placements to see how this moon may impact you.

When does the Eclipse Season End?

The Eclipse season begins on October 14th with a Solar eclipse. The eclipse season will continue until the Lunar eclipse on October 28th, 2023, which signifies the end of this powerful celestial period. During this time, embrace the opportunity for deep spiritual growth and insight, making it a potent period for magical practices and inner work.

Why Don’t We Manifest During Eclipse Season?:

Eclipse season, encompassing both solar and lunar eclipses, is a time of heightened emotions and unpredictability. This period is often considered unfavourable for manifestation and spellwork due to the intense energies at play. It can get a wee bit chaotic to work with, even for the most advanced Witches. Instead, it’s wise to focus on self-reflection, releasing what no longer serves you, and setting intentions with prudence.

How Can We Honour the Moon During the Eclipse Season?

With this eclipse taking place in Libra, we can also look into the mundane. Libra rules the skin, the kidneys and the lower back. Take yourself for a massage or give yourself a facial during the peak of the moon. Keep it slow and keep it chill during this wee moment of ‘chaos’.

When Can We Start Manifesting Again?

Ooh super keen and we love to see it! After the 28th October 2023 is when the last Eclipse occurs but I’d recommend adding a few extra days caution to prevent any ‘Shadow’ period hiccups from happening.

So there you have it, the final Eclipse Season of 2023!

Rituals and Spells for Harnessing the Energy of the Full Moon in Aries

Emma shares some fabulous insights, spells and rituals so that you can make the most out of 23rd Septembers Aries Full Moon.

It’s one of our favourite times of the Month, the  full moon, and on this 29th of September, 2023, it graces us in the fiery sign of Aries. The Full Moon in Aries is a powerful celestial event, brimming with energy and intensity and as someone with Aries placements, I am SURE feeling it already. Aries, being the first sign of the zodiac, represents beginnings, leadership, and courage. This lunar phase is the perfect time to embrace new opportunities, release what no longer serves you, and ignite your inner fire. So let’s  explore the significance of the Full Moon in Aries and share some magical rituals and spells to help you harness its energy.

The Full Moon in Aries: Significance

The Full Moon is a culmination of energy, a time when the lunar cycle reaches its zenith. When it occurs in Aries, a sign ruled by Mars, the planet of action and passion, the energy becomes electrifying. Here are some key themes associated with the Full Moon in Aries:

Initiation and Courage: Aries is known for its boldness and fearlessness. This Full Moon encourages you to step out of your comfort zone, take risks, and initiate new endeavors with confidence.

Self-Discovery: Aries is the sign of the self. Use this time to delve into self-discovery, understanding your desires, strengths, and weaknesses. What do you want to manifest in your life?

Releasing Pent-Up Energy: Aries is a fire sign, and this Full Moon can help you release pent-up emotions and frustrations. It’s a time to let go of what no longer serves you, making room for fresh energies.

Basically this full Moon is all about letting go, so that you can move forward into the next stages of your spiritual journey.

Eg. Want to find love? This is a perfect time to do a cord cutting ritual to let go of past romantic trauma and open yourself up to love.

Want to move into the next stage of your career? This is the perfect moon to purge yourself of self doubt and visualise the next steps in your career.

This is also the last recommended Full Moon to manifest before the eclipse season starts – why? Eclipse season can be chaotic and things that you manifest may not work out the way you expect. When I worked with Astrologer Queen Aliza Kelly, she warned me about doing this once annnnnnnd let’s just say I’ll never do it again…but that is another blog post entirely! Just listen to your spiritual Aunties, coven kids, as we only advise so you don’t repeat our mistakes.

Rituals and Spells for the Full Moon in Aries

So, how can we use this full moon to help release the things that are barriers to our manifestations…well, you’ve come to the right place.

Fire Meditation: Find a quiet, safe space outdoors or by a window. Light a red or white candle (colors associated with Aries) and gaze into the flame. As you do, visualize any fears, doubts, or obstacles burning away. Channel the fiery energy of Aries to boost your confidence and courage.

Write Your Desires: Take a piece of paper and write down your intentions and desires for the coming weeks or months. Be specific about what you want to achieve. Then, under the light of the Full Moon, burn the paper, releasing your intentions to the universe.

Release Ritual: Write down any negative thoughts, habits, or situations that you wish to release. Visualise these aspects leaving your life. You can bury the paper in the earth or toss it into flowing water as a symbol of letting go.

Aries Tarot Reading: If you’re into tarot (and we sure are here!) perform a tarot reading with a focus on new beginnings and courage. The Fool card and the Emperor card may be particularly relevant during this time.

Protection Spell: Aries is also associated with protecting one’s boundaries. Create a protective circle by casting a circle of salt around yourself. As you do, recite a protection incantation, such as: “By the power of Aries, I shield myself from harm. Boundaries strong, I remain unharmed.”

Moon Bathing: Spend some time outdoors under the light of the Full Moon, soaking in its energy. Visualize the moon’s energy infusing you with courage and determination.

Cord Cutting Ritual :

What you need:

  • A (red if posible but other colours are fine) cord or string
  • A pair of scissors
  • A red or white candle
  • A quiet, sacred space

Steps:

Find a quiet space and light candle.

  • Hold the red cord and focus on what you wish to release—negative thoughts, attachments, or emotional burdens.
  • Cut the cord, saying:

By the Aries Full Moon’s might, I release what binds me tight. As I sever this cord today, I’m free to light my own way.

pssst! You can write your own chant if you wish 😉
  • Visualise the released energy dissipating, leaving you feeling lighter and empowered.
  • Safely extinguish the candle and reflect on your renewed sense of freedom.
  • This spell allows you to let go of what no longer serves you and embrace the Full Moon in Aries’ empowering energy.

Green Witchcraft: Growing my own herbs

Green Witchery is the theme of Tarot Reader, Emma’s latest project – growing herbs and using them in her witchcraft. Nice.

What I am doing

Well dear coven, it’s finally happened – I only got some outdoor space and finally started growing my own herbs. I am unbelievably excited about this fact, maybe too excited but  here is the low down on my little green adventure:

What Herbs am I growing?

I am currently growing six different herbs in three seperate herb boxes in this batch and they are as follows:

  • Basil and Parsley – as they are both thirsty plants so grow well together.
  • Chive, Sage and Thyme  – These grow well together and as I am growing the Sage in there too, I don’t want too many aggressive plants together.
  • Mint – this is an aggressive plant according to my research so it was recommended that you grow it separately where possible.

All the herbs together, auw.

Magickal uses for Herbs :

  • Basil – Protection and wards of negative energies, prosperity and wealth, abundance, loving vibrations
  • Chive – Health, protection of home and body,
  • Thyme – Attracts loyalty, love and helps support Psychic abilities
  • Parsley – Creates power and strength also for passion, purification, and prosperity.
  • Mint – encourages strength, abundance, good communication and protection
  • Sage – Cleansing and warding of negative energy wisdom, longevity and health

Why start growing my own now?

Living in London outdoor space is a bit of a luxury so having spent the last 10 years with just a balcony I was desperate to get my inner cottage core Queen out and get a little herb situation going on in my very own garden. I finally got to move house last year and after settling in I have no excuse not to do it, so here we are. I’ve deliberately started my gardening experience in a very basic and lowlight way to start with but hopefully it will bloom into something more fruitful over the years. Who doesn’t like a fulfilling hobby, huh? Especially when you can make spells and snacks out of it.

How am I growing herbs?

I generally woke up and decided today ‘I’m going to start growing some herbs and see what happens’

Basically, this.

Image citation: willmcphail.com

So I used my ADHD superpowers to help me find the quickest solution to make the magick happen.

The Herb Growing Kit:

I got the planting containers from Amazon* – these are to settle them in and grow them out a wee bit and then I’ll get something more swanky and permanent. If successful I will  then begin the process again with new herbs. Exciting times indeed.

Top Level: Compost, live plants, seeds and some planting containers.

Picture from the product page

Compost  – I got a cheap condensed packet Poundland where you just add water and et voila, you’ve got a huge bag of compost! I am not going to lie, that part of the process was really fun.

I brought the live plants from supermarkets. In some cases we got them reduced,so technically we saved some of them. Auw. I had previous success growing a fresh live basil from the supermarket reduced aisle so I was hopeful my impulsive gardening episode would be just as successful.

Finally, some ‘Grow your one Christmas Dinner’ pack of seeds that I also acquired at Poundland also got planted in the boxes  and I will report back on any progress with that in a few months.

I wanted to do this approach to show that anyone can have a go – there are no promises that we will be successful but we’re currently looking good!

(Green) fingers crossed that this little experiment of mine goes well and if it does I will certainly do it again as I find being in the garden and/or growing things really soothes me. It’s now become an important feature of my everyday practice with me setting my intentions into my plants and watching them grow with my attention – certainly useful as practice for mindfulness.

The Mint is settling in nicely.

So our next stop? Seeking the pots to put them in full time, deciding which recipes and spells to concoct with my new fresh garden annnd what should I grow next?

Have you been inspired to get your grow own – or are you a Green witch with some tips to share? Let us know below in the comments or via social media as we love to hear from you!

Until next time, darlings!

20 Versatile Ways to Harness the Power of Moon Water in Your Spiritual Practice

20 fabulous ways that you use Moonwater to super charge your witchcraft and spiritual practice.

I simply adore making Moon water, and like many witches it was one of the first rituals I started performing as a practicing witch. What I love about Moon water is that it is so versatile. When I started making this list I didn’t expect it to end up as long as it did and I fully expect to make a part two to this as I continue down this spiritual road and we share ideas.

Here’s a list of ways you can use Moon water:

Cleansing and Purification: Use Moon water to cleanse and purify yourself, objects, or spaces of negative energy. Sprinkle or spray it around your home or sacred space. It makes the perfect ingredient to a room spray.

Bathing and Showering: Make washing even more magickal by adding moon water to your bath or mixing it with your shower gel to help you cleanse and refresh your energy.

Altar Offerings: Use as an offering on altars, particularly those dedicated to lunar deities or during lunar rituals – if that is your practice.

Charging Crystals and Gemstones: Place crystals and gemstones in a bowl of moon water under the moonlight to cleanse and charge their energy. Make sure to check that the Crystals are safe to use in water.

Anointing: Use moon water to anoint candles, tools, or yourself during rituals or spells for added lunar energy.

Drinking: Make sure that the water is safe to drink first but the consumption of moon water is believed to promote intuition, psychic abilities, and spiritual insight.

Dreamwork: Drink a small amount of moon water before sleep to enhance dream recall and promote lucid and intuitive dreaming.

Plant Care: I love to water my plants with moon water when I am manifesting something as it helps me focus and I can see something develop from my attention to it. You can also water your plants with moon water to promote growth and vitality, especially during the full moon. Good plant parenting right there.

Divination: This will certainly need to be a larger article but one way you can use moon water as a scrying tool is by placing it in a black bowl or mirror to enhance your divination practices. It’s also really useful to sprinkle around any areas where you perform readings and want to do a quick space cleanse.

Magical Ink: This is something I’m exploring more at the minute so I will report on all my findings soon but you can use moon water as a base for creating magical inks or writing spells, intentions, or sigils. Fabulous, right?

Ritual Baths: Take a ritual bath with moon water to align your energy with the moon’s cycles and intentions…or just take a witchy bath whenever, we advocate for romantising your life here.

Making Moon Tea: Who doesn’t love a good cuppa? Mind you, I would say that as a Brit. Use Moon water to brew herbal teas to infuse them with lunar energy.

Energy Cleansing Tools: Soak crystals, pendulums, or other divination tools in moon water to cleanse and reset their energy.

Empowering Jewellery: Empower your jewellery, such as rings, necklaces, or amulets, by soaking them in moon water. Also great for cleansing proactive jewerllery – or in general.

Enhancing Spells: Add moon water to spell jars, potions, or spellwork to enhance their potency and connection to lunar energies.

Charging Tarot or Oracle Decks: Place your tarot or oracle cards in moonlight while resting on a dish of moon water to cleanse and charge them.

How to make Moon Water

UK Tarot Reader and Witch Emma teaches us about the enchanting world of Moon water and the ways it supercharges your witchcraft.

The New Moon is in Virgo on the 15th September so I thought it would be timely to learn more about the enchanting world of Moon water and the ways it supercharges your witchcraft. Whether you’re a seasoned witch or just dipping your toes into the magical waters, harnessing the power of the Moon and its cycles can add a celestial touch to your craft. Plus….it’s really bloody fun. Who doesn’t like making a lil ceremony out of things, huh?

Today, we’re gonna dive into the process of making Moon water during the new Moon and explore the ways you can use this elixir in your spells and rituals.

Making Moon Water:

How to make Moon water from your very own home is simple, just follow the below instructions.

What you will need to make moon water:

  • A clean glass or crystal container – preferably with a lid
  • Pure, clean water – spring or filtered works best and tap is fine
  • A quiet, sacred space under the night sky – if you don’t have access to any outdoor space then a shelf or window sill works.
  • Patience and intent – Make sure you know what your New Moon intentions are before you begin the Moon Water process.

How to make Moon Water:

Now you have everything that you need please follow these next steps to make your New Moon Water.

  • Choose Your Moon Water  Container: Select a clear, glass or crystal container for your Moon water. The container should be clean and free from any contaminants especially if you plan to drink the water. If you can only get clear plastic etc that is fine.
  • Setting the Stage: Find a quiet, sacred space outdoors where you can place your container. The new Moon phase is the ideal time to connect with the Moon’s energy, as it represents new beginnings and fresh intentions. If you don’t have access to outside space then you can store your Moon water on a shelf or window sill so it can bask in the Moonlight.
  • Fill Your Container: Pour your chosen water into the container and make sure that it is sealed tight so no little nasties get in there! [Optional] You can also add herbs and other ingredients to help flavour the water and/or build the intent.
  • Select Your Crystal [optional]: Placing a crystal by your water can infuse it with additional energy. Quartz crystals are versatile and work well for most intentions, but you can choose one that resonates with your specific goal. PLEASE NOTE: Putting crystals in the water is risky so please don’t do this or check with an expert before you do if you plan to consume the water.
  • Set Your Intentions: As you place your container in the Moonlight, focus on your intentions for this Moon water. What do you want to manifest in your life? Visualise this goal and set the water with your intent/manifestation. [Optional] You can write down on a piece of paper your goals and leave by the Moon water to set your intent and/or you can read aloud your intentions when placing your water in it’s charging location. I like to use music to get me into the magickal head space as well.
  • Leave It to Charge: Leave the container under the Moonlight for the entire night, ideally from the moment the new Moon is visible until dawn. We all have different life and sleep patterns so these times may vary.
  • Retrieve Your Moon Water: When you wake up, collect your container. Your Moon water is now charged with the energy of the new Moon and your intentions.

Now,  it’s time to use that Moon water to make some magick and there are plenty of ways to use Moon water in your practice.

The Witchy Uses of Moon Water

Now that you’ve crafted yourself some snazzy lil’  Moon water, let’s explore the fascinating ways you can integrate it into your witchcraft. We’ll go more in depth into these ways in further posts but for a general idea:

Spellwork and Rituals: Moon water is a versatile ingredient in spellcasting. Use it to consecrate tools, anoint candles, or enhance the potency of your spells.

Cleansing and Purification: Sprinkle Moon water around your home to cleanse and purify the energy. You can also add a few drops to your bath for a spiritually refreshing experience.

Housework: If you really want to go all the way when it comes to purification and cleansing your space, you can even use Moon water in your housework and daily chores. Adding Moon water to a mix of water and salt is a fabulous cleanser for your floor. Mirror magic? Mixing Moon water with salt and vinegar is great for cleaning your mirrors which capture a lot of energy and can be powerful tools for spell work.

You could even use a larger container especially for the storaging of Moon water for use in cleansing your home throughout the cycle. Now, that is dedication!

Divination Enhancer: Dab Moon water on your third eye (forehead) before a tarot reading or scrying session to enhance your intuitive abilities. You could also do this before bed to encourage psychic dreams.

Meditation Aid: Sip a small amount of Moon water before meditation or bedtime  to help you connect with your inner self and the lunar energies.

You can even use Moon water in the bath and wash your face and hair with that extra magical touch. Just make sure to visualise what you are manifesting as you do.

Manifestation: Use Moon water to water plants, symbolizing the nurturing of your intentions and goals (more on this later in the month!). You can also drink it as you visualise your manifestation goals

Cooking and Kitchen Witchery – Using Moon water as an ingredient and to boil things such as tea or pasta helps adds a little extra magic into your meals. You can also use a few drops within stocks to freeze and spread the intention through the Month. Nice!

Crafting Moon water during the new Moon and infusing it with your intentions is a delightful way to tap into the Moon’s magical energy. It’s certainly one of the simplest ways to get into practicing monthly rituals and is for beginner witches.  Whether you’re using it in spellwork, cleansing, or self-care, the possibilities for its uses can be tailored to your practice! So, grab your crystals, set your intentions, and let the magic of Moon water help energenise your magic and manifestations 🌙🔮✨

When is the next New Moon?

The next New Moon is 15th September 2023 and will be in Virgo. This is the best time to set your intentions due to it being the last New Moon before Eclipse Season kick starts from 14th October. Eclipses can be chaotic so I don’t personally manifest during time (I learn from my mistakes!) so I use this time to plant the seeds and build the foundations of what I am manifesting before taking a lil break until after eclipse season ends on the 28th Oct.

The remaining New Moons for 2023 are:

14th October 2023

  • New Moon – New Hunter’s Moon

13th November 2023

  • New Moon – New Beaver Moon

12th December 2023

  • New Moon – New Cold Moon

New Moon in Libra 2022

Bang in the middle of Mercury Retrograde and just after the seasonal shift of the seasons, we have a chance for new beginnings and transitions with the New Moon in Libra.

When is the New Moon in Libra?

The New Moon in Libra is on 25th September 2022 and will reach its peak at 10:55am BST.

What is the New Moon?

The New Moon marks the start of the Lunar cycle and is sometimes also knowns as the Dark Moon as during this point the moon isn’t visible to us, but she is still there.

What does the New Moon mean in Witchcraft?

The New Moon is a new chapter, a time for new beginnings and a time for intention setting.

What are the themes of the New Moon in Libra?

Libra is ruled by Venus (the planet of love, romance and relationships) so now’s the time we can review existing relationships or even aim for a new one. This particular moon will also be directly opposite Jupiter (planet of luck, fortune, favour and blessings) so there will be a spark in the air, almost as though the power of the moon and the changes around us have been magnified. It’s going to be fit.

Being Libra, we should also look at the areas of our life that need more balance, can something be lost or gained to help you through the rest of the year in more equilibrium.

What herbs are related to this moon

Rose will be your best friend right now because not only is rose associated with the moon but it’ll also work well with Libra and its ruler, Venus.

Elderberry (which is in season right now if some grows near you) and thyme from your garden or spice rack will also go down a treat.

What can I do during the New Moon?

  1. Intention setting ceremony

As we reach the New Moon start your intention setting, write down what you desire as though you have already achieved it. Fold the paper three times towards you to welcome these things into your life. Burn the paper in a fire-safe place to release those intentions into the universe and be ready for the next steps in your moon work.
  2. Ritual bath / Shower

A ritual bath or shower can help cleanse the body, mind and spirit from the cycle before. Set your vibe with incense and candles of your choice (I use rose incense and pink candles for this moon) and add the following either directly to your bath or into a fabric bag and tie it to the shower head if you don’t have a bath:

    – Rose petals / Rose Essential oils to represent the Moon and Venus
    – Salt (I use Pink salt but any kind you have is perfect) to ground yourself
    – Lemon slices to cleanse and purify
    – Thyme for courage to strive for your intention and to protect you during the cycle ahead

As you bathe, think on your intention and all you hope to achieve during the next cycle. As you wash, picture yourself washing away any hurt, pain or discomfort from the previous cycle, your past mistakes will literally go down the drain.

Use a sieve to collect the remaining ‘bits’, thank them for their help and dispose of them.
  3. Moon tea latte

All you need is rose tea and milk of your choice… make the tea almost like an espresso so either steep in a small amount of water from the kettle for 5 mins OR boil in a saucepan. You can add sugar or Agave / Honey to your taste. Strain the water into a glass and top with heated milk (yes, it’ll be a pink latte). Stir three times with your intention for the cycle, seal this moment by tapping the rim of you cup three times with a spoon and relax with a tasty rose latte.
  4. Shadow work

Use this moment to reflect on the past cycle or even the year so far and find moments you need to change, adapt or improve. Here are some prompts you can use:

    – What is no longer bringing me joy?
    – How can I open myself up to new relationships?
    – Are they any relationships I can give more to?
    – Are there any relationships I give too much to?
    – In what ways have I grown over summer?
    – How can I love myself more?
    – In what ways can I start to rest more during autumn and winter?
    – What was my previous intention and how did I do?

But, even if you just wanted to sit in a comfy cocoon and have an early night, that’s OK too. All practices are different so you don’t need to do all of the above if that’s not for you.

Have a happy New Moon in Libra <3

Simple morning ritual for the beginner witch

AJ shares one of her morning rituals, which is perfect for the beginners or for witches looking for some inspiration

A new day is here and you feel MAGICAL AF, how best to start your day than a a simple ritual?

Now, don’t get me wrong, we are NOT a Disney Princess, we do not wake primed and perfect and ready to tackle our day. Sometimes it takes every ounce of energy to just sit up.

Here, I have broken down a nice ritual you can do as and when you feel like you can, don’t feel guilty if you don’t do it everyday, i can guarantee I don’t! However, I do notice that my better days have always been those where I have done some kind of ritual. Could just be though!

Your morning caffeine kick

Whether it’s tea or coffee, even a glass of water, whatever your choice of beverage is first thing in the morning, let’s make it magical.

A black coffee cup that looks like a cauldron holds a cup of tea and says 'witches brew' on the front
AJ’s favourite mug

I add honey (to sweeten my day) to my coffee (grounding) and stir the cup three times as I set my intention for the day. Sometimes out loud, sometimes in my head. Whatever my intention is, i speak it as though it has already been achieved.

e.g.

“I have had a productive day”

“I have had a happy day”

“I have achieved everything I wanted to achieve”

“I completed that report”

” I have absolutely smashed my day because I am a badass”

After the third stir, I tap my spoon three times on the rim of my favourite mug to ‘seal’ the intention for the day. Instead of a spoon, you can also use a cinnamon stick for extra abundance and magical energy!

Light a candle / some incense

This can be made even better when you use a candle / colour or scent to compliment your intention for the day. For example, if you want to stay relaxed, use lavender.

Here’s a wee correspondence chart if this is all new to you

VibeColourScent
HappyYellowFrankincense or orange
CreativeOrangeCinnamon
RelaxedBlueLavender
RomanceReds and Pinks Rose or cherry (dragonsblood is great for love magic, wink wink)
Lucky / wealthGreenPine

Visualise your day

As I have a 9-5, it’s pretty easy to predict how my day is going to go but I also visualise how i want my day to make me FEEL. Maybe I have a big presentation that i’m nervous about it, as I get dressed i picture myself absolutely smashing it and celebrating in the pub afterwards. It’s warm, inviting and the air is abuzz with delight.

Draw a card of the day

This is a nice and simple thing to do if you’re still learning tarot, want to brush up your skills, are experimenting with a different deck or even just want to start incorporating more divination into your daily routine.

The Supernatural Tarot deck and guide book is spread out on the carpet. the first card is turned up showing XVIII The Moon - represented here by an illustrated version of the character Loki / Gabriel in various shades of blue with the red phases of the moon circling his head. 2 cards remain face down with a pentacle in the centre.
The Supernatural Tarot Deck

Questions to ask as you shuffle your deck:

“What challenges may I see today”

“How do I approach that presentation I have”

“How do I communicate my feelings with X:

“How can i make my day brighter’

“What good news in in store today”

Seal your day

As the ending to my little ritual of the morning, I like to seal it with a bit of glamour magic. I have a favourite enchanted lipstick (or a chapstick of you’re not feeling the effort… you know), pop that on while speaking a final affirmation to the mirror. For me, that final affirmation is usually ‘you got this, AJ’.

What rituals do you do in the mornings?
