A new month is a blank page in your grimoire, a chance to set powerful intentions and align your energy with the themes of the season. This October, don’t just let the month happen to you. Conjure it with purpose.

Here is your simple guide to welcoming October with witchcraft, from a beloved prosperity ritual to other ways to set your magickal tone.

Cinnamon” by Kjokkenutstyr.net

The Cinnamon Abundance Ritual: A Sweet Start to October

Perhaps the most popular and joyful new-month ritual sweeping through the witchy community is the act of blowing cinnamon into your home. This simple practice is a powerful piece of sympathetic magic, rooted in the intention of drawing abundance—in all its forms—across your threshold.

Why Cinnamon?
Cinnamon has been prized for centuries not just for its flavor, but for its potent magical properties. It’s associated with:

  • Prosperity & Abundance: Its warm, stimulating energy is believed to attract wealth and success.
  • Protection: The strong scent is said to create a protective barrier against negative influences.
  • Spiritual Power: It raises vibrational energy, making it perfect for amplifying your intentions and spiritual work.

How to Perform the Cinnamon Ritual:

Cinnamon on coffee with autumn table decorations
  1. Gather Your Supplies: All you need is about a tablespoon of ground cinnamon. Ceylon cinnamon is ideal, but any cinnamon from your kitchen spice rack will work beautifully.
  2. Set Your Intention: Before you begin, hold the cinnamon in your hand. Close your eyes and focus on what “abundance” means for you this October. Is it financial prosperity? An abundance of joy, creativity, or peace? Be specific in your mind.
  3. Blow in the Blessings: Stand outside your open front door, facing inward. Place the cinnamon in the palm of your hand. Take a deep breath, focusing on your intention, and gently blow the cinnamon from your hand, across the threshold and into your home. As you do, you can say a simple affirmation aloud, such as:With this cinnamon, I blow in prosperity and joy. Welcome, October. My home is a magnet for abundance.
  4. Let it Settle: Do not sweep or vacuum the cinnamon for at least 24 hours. This allows the energy to settle and permeate your home, giving the magic time to work. After that, you can clean it normally, visualising any residual stagnant energy being swept away with it.

Beyond Cinnamon: Crafting Your October Energy

While the cinnamon ritual is a fantastic foundation, you can build a more personalised monthly practice around it. Here are a few other ways to welcome October’s unique magic.

Energetic Cleansing: Sweep Away the Old
Before you can fill a cup, it must be empty. Start your month by cleansing your physical and energetic space of any lingering September energy.

  • Open a Window: Even for just a minute. Let the stale air of the past month out and invite the crisp, new energy of October in. Shouting and commanding bad spirits out of the house is another fun way to get the house vibes up.
  • Smoke Cleansing: Pass a bundle of rosemary, cedar, or sage around your front door, windowsill, and yourself to clear stagnant energy. As you do, state, “I release all that no longer serves me. My space is clear and receptive.” or whatever intents feel right to you.
  • Sound Bath: Ring a bell, chime, or sing a note in each corner of your main rooms. Sound is a powerful vibratory tool for breaking up dense energy. Yes, banging a saucepan does actually count.

2. Set the Tone: Candle Magic for Your Intentions
What do you want to manifest this October? A candle spell can set the tone.

  • Take a candle (a tea light or a small chime candle is perfect). Anoint it with a drop of olive or sunflower oil, moving from the wick outward to draw energy in, or from the base to the wick to release energy.
  • As you do, speak your intention for October. Is it protection for the spooky season? Introspection for your shadow work? Joy for the Halloween festivities? Press that intention into the wax.
  • Light the candle and let it burn safely while you meditate, write in your journal, or simply enjoy a moment of quiet. Visualize your month unfolding as you desire.

3. Divination for the Month Ahead: Consult the Cards
Ask your tarot or oracle deck for guidance. A simple three-card pull can offer profound insight:

  • Card 1: The Energy of September’s End. What are you carrying over?
  • Card 2: The Core Theme of October. What is the central lesson or focus?
  • Card 3: Advice for Navigating the Month. How can you best work with this energy?
Journal the message and keep the cards on your altar or desk as a guide you can revisit all month long.
Scents of Salem candle with tarot cards and herbs

4. Create an October Grimoire Page
Dedicate a page in your Book of Shadows or journal to this powerful month.

  • Write the word “OCTOBER” in a beautiful script.
  • Note the astrological events (New Moon, Full Hunter’s Moon).
  • Circle Samhain on October 31st.
  • Jot down your cinnamon ritual intention, your tarot pull, and any goals or spells you want to work on.
This act physically and magically dedicates space for the month’s magic, making you an active participant in its creation.

Weaving Your Monthly Tapestry

You don’t need to do all of these things. Even one small, focused act—like blowing cinnamon across your threshold—is enough to mark the transition with magic and purpose. By taking just 15-30 minutes for this practice, you move from passively watching the calendar turn to actively weaving the tapestry of your month.

The Spells Intentions:

I wanted a spell that would pay homage to energies that I was working with to help encourage love, wealth and abundance to flow towards me. I love to do these hearthy spells regularly as they help me cleanse negative energies away but also helps me bring positive good energy in…and I get to eat delicious food, so yey!

  • So when constructing the recipe I pulled from what I want I want to achieve
  • I set my intentions and wrote them down
  • I wrote my recipe based on my intentions e.g Herbs that bring wealth..
  • I started to make the recipe at the perfect time of day – in this case in the evening when I usually do larger spells (I just love to work at night, you know?)

Anyway here she is the recipe in all her glory:

Ways that Witches use Cheese in Witchcraft

As you know I am all about educating when it comes to witchcraft but I also really love talking about cheese … .so here are some ways that witches can use cheese in their Witchcraft.

In witchcraft, various ingredients, including cheese, can be used in spells and rituals based on their magical properties and symbolism. While cheese may not be as commonly discussed as some other ingredients, it can be employed in witchcraft in several ways:

  • Offerings to Deities: In some pagan or deity-specific practices, cheese may be offered as a gift to certain gods or goddesses. The choice of cheese can vary depending on the deity’s associations or preferences.
  • Kitchen Witchcraft: Kitchen witches often work with ingredients readily available in the kitchen, including cheese. Depending on the type of cheese and its attributes, it can be incorporated into spells or rituals. For example, cheddar cheese might be used for prosperity or yellow cheese for happiness.
  • Binding Spells: Cheese, particularly soft and moldable varieties like Brie or

Camembert, can be used in binding spells. You might symbolically bind two individuals or energies together, perhaps in a spell to promote unity or strengthen a relationship.

  • Divination: In some divination practices, cheese can be used as a tool for scrying or interpretation. The patterns or holes in certain types of cheese may be interpreted symbolically.
  • Feast Celebrations: Cheese can be included in celebrations, feasts, or Sabbat rituals as an offering or as part of a larger ritual meal. For example, it could be offered during a harvest festival to honour the abundance of the season.
  • Symbolism: The type and colour of the cheese can be chosen for its symbolism in a particular spell. White cheese may represent purity, while blue cheese may symbolise transformation or change.
  • Altar Decorations: Cheese can be used as an altar decoration to represent the earth element. You might place cheese, along with other food items, on your altar to honour the harvest, fertility, or abundance.

When using cheese or any other ingredient in witchcraft, it’s essential to consider the magical properties and symbolism associated with that ingredient. Also, personal intent and intuition play a significant role in crafting effective spells and rituals. As with any magical practice, it’s essential to respect the beliefs and traditions of your own path and those of others.

So have I inspired you to go and get your cook in the kitchen and work some magick? Or do you have a recipe or a ritual that you want to share with us? If so let us know below in the comment or via our social channels as we love to hear from you.

Pumpkin Spice Magic: A Delectable Blend of History, Folklore, and Witchcraft

We’re exploring the history of pumpkin spice, its intriguing ties to witchcraft, and how it’s become an essential part of our seasonal rituals

Spooky Season: It’s that time again.

As the crisp winds of autumn sweep through the land, a familiar aroma fills the air, beckoning us with its warm, comforting embrace. It’s the enchanting scent of pumpkin spice, a blend that transcends the boundaries of flavors and invokes the essence of Autumn and mania in shopping aisles. Today, we’re exploring the rich history of pumpkin spice, its intriguing ties to folklore and witchcraft, and how this magical mixture has become an essential part of our seasonal rituals and coffee orders.

The Origins of Pumpkin Spice:

Pumpkin spice, that delightful combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger, traces its roots back to ancient civilizations. Spices like cinnamon and nutmeg were highly prized in ancient Egypt and India, not only for their culinary uses but also for their medicinal and mystical properties.

Pumpkin Spice: Folklore and Harvest Celebrations:

The association between pumpkin spice and folklore can be traced to the autumn harvest festivals celebrated by various cultures. Pumpkins, as a quintessential fall crop, were often featured prominently in these celebrations. The spices used in pumpkin spice blends were believed to have protective and purifying qualities. In some traditions, these spices were sprinkled around homes to ward off malevolent spirits and ensure a bountiful harvest.

  • Purification: They are also employed for purification rituals, cleansing spaces or objects of unwanted energies.

Ginger: Empowering and Energizing:

Ginger, the final element in the pumpkin spice blend, brings its own unique qualities to magical practices:

How Witches Use Pumpkin Spice:

Witches have long appreciated the power of herbs and spices in their magical practices. Pumpkin spice, with its warm and grounding properties, is a favorite among modern witches for several reasons:

Seasonal Connection: Pumpkin spice is closely tied to the autumn season when the veil between worlds is believed to be thin. It aligns with the earthy, grounding energies of Autumn, making it an ideal addition to spells and rituals during this time.

Harmony and Balance: The spices in pumpkin spice, individually and collectively, promote balance, harmony, and warmth. Witches use it to create a harmonious atmosphere in their homes and rituals.

Transformation and Transition: Autumn is a season of change, and pumpkin spice embodies the transformative energy of this season. Witches utilise it to facilitate personal growth and navigate life’s transitions.

Connection with Ancestors: Pumpkin spice’s popularity during holidays like Samhain and Halloween also makes it a potent tool for connecting with ancestors and spirit guides.

Comfort and Hearth Magic: The warm, comforting scent of pumpkin spice can create a cozy atmosphere conducive to meditation, divination, or simply relaxing by the hearth.

Protection and Purification: Individual spices within pumpkin spice, such as cinnamon and cloves, are known for their protective and purifying qualities, making them valuable tools in warding off negative energies.

Enhancing Psychic Abilities: Nutmeg, another component of pumpkin spice, is associated with enhancing psychic abilities and intuition, making it a valuable addition to divination practices.

Further Uses For Pumpkin Spice:

Beyond its magical properties, pumpkin spice has become a beloved flavor of the Autumn season. From lattes to candles, this aromatic blend has permeated our daily lives and rituals. Here are a few lifestyle elements where pumpkin spice shines:

  • Self-Care Rituals: Many incorporate pumpkin spice into self-care routines, whether through homemade face masks, bath salts, or even as an ingredient in natural perfumes

Pumpkin spice, with its deep historical roots, ties to folklore, and its embrace by modern witches, has become a symbol of autumn’s magic. As you savor that pumpkin spice latte or light a pumpkin spice candle, remember the ancient wisdom and enchantment this delightful blend carries with it. Green Witchcraft: Growing my own herbs

Green Witchery is the theme of Tarot Reader, Emma’s latest project – growing herbs and using them in her witchcraft. Nice.

What I am doing

Well dear coven, it’s finally happened – I only got some outdoor space and finally started growing my own herbs. I am unbelievably excited about this fact, maybe too excited but  here is the low down on my little green adventure:

What Herbs am I growing?

I am currently growing six different herbs in three seperate herb boxes in this batch and they are as follows:

  • Basil and Parsley – as they are both thirsty plants so grow well together.
  • Chive, Sage and Thyme  – These grow well together and as I am growing the Sage in there too, I don’t want too many aggressive plants together.
  • Mint – this is an aggressive plant according to my research so it was recommended that you grow it separately where possible.

All the herbs together, auw.

Magickal uses for Herbs :

  • Basil – Protection and wards of negative energies, prosperity and wealth, abundance, loving vibrations
  • Chive – Health, protection of home and body,
  • Thyme – Attracts loyalty, love and helps support Psychic abilities
  • Parsley – Creates power and strength also for passion, purification, and prosperity.
  • Mint – encourages strength, abundance, good communication and protection
  • Sage – Cleansing and warding of negative energy wisdom, longevity and health

Why start growing my own now?

Living in London outdoor space is a bit of a luxury so having spent the last 10 years with just a balcony I was desperate to get my inner cottage core Queen out and get a little herb situation going on in my very own garden. I finally got to move house last year and after settling in I have no excuse not to do it, so here we are. I’ve deliberately started my gardening experience in a very basic and lowlight way to start with but hopefully it will bloom into something more fruitful over the years. Who doesn’t like a fulfilling hobby, huh? Especially when you can make spells and snacks out of it.

How am I growing herbs?

I generally woke up and decided today ‘I’m going to start growing some herbs and see what happens’

Basically, this.

Image citation: willmcphail.com

So I used my ADHD superpowers to help me find the quickest solution to make the magick happen.

The Herb Growing Kit:

I got the planting containers from Amazon* – these are to settle them in and grow them out a wee bit and then I’ll get something more swanky and permanent. If successful I will  then begin the process again with new herbs. Exciting times indeed.

Top Level: Compost, live plants, seeds and some planting containers.

Picture from the product page

Compost  – I got a cheap condensed packet Poundland where you just add water and et voila, you’ve got a huge bag of compost! I am not going to lie, that part of the process was really fun.

I brought the live plants from supermarkets. In some cases we got them reduced,so technically we saved some of them. Auw. I had previous success growing a fresh live basil from the supermarket reduced aisle so I was hopeful my impulsive gardening episode would be just as successful.

Finally, some ‘Grow your one Christmas Dinner’ pack of seeds that I also acquired at Poundland also got planted in the boxes  and I will report back on any progress with that in a few months.

I wanted to do this approach to show that anyone can have a go – there are no promises that we will be successful but we’re currently looking good!

(Green) fingers crossed that this little experiment of mine goes well and if it does I will certainly do it again as I find being in the garden and/or growing things really soothes me. It’s now become an important feature of my everyday practice with me setting my intentions into my plants and watching them grow with my attention – certainly useful as practice for mindfulness.

The Mint is settling in nicely.

So our next stop? Seeking the pots to put them in full time, deciding which recipes and spells to concoct with my new fresh garden annnd what should I grow next?

Have you been inspired to get your grow own – or are you a Green witch with some tips to share? Let us know below in the comments or via social media as we love to hear from you!

Until next time, darlings!

How to make Moon Water

UK Tarot Reader and Witch Emma teaches us about the enchanting world of Moon water and the ways it supercharges your witchcraft.

The New Moon is in Virgo on the 15th September so I thought it would be timely to learn more about the enchanting world of Moon water and the ways it supercharges your witchcraft. Whether you’re a seasoned witch or just dipping your toes into the magical waters, harnessing the power of the Moon and its cycles can add a celestial touch to your craft. Plus….it’s really bloody fun. Who doesn’t like making a lil ceremony out of things, huh?

Today, we’re gonna dive into the process of making Moon water during the new Moon and explore the ways you can use this elixir in your spells and rituals.

Making Moon Water:

How to make Moon water from your very own home is simple, just follow the below instructions.

What you will need to make moon water:

  • A clean glass or crystal container – preferably with a lid
  • Pure, clean water – spring or filtered works best and tap is fine
  • A quiet, sacred space under the night sky – if you don’t have access to any outdoor space then a shelf or window sill works.
  • Patience and intent – Make sure you know what your New Moon intentions are before you begin the Moon Water process.

A witch holding a glass of wine” by freestocks.org is marked with CC0 1.0.

How to make Moon Water:

Now you have everything that you need please follow these next steps to make your New Moon Water.

  • Choose Your Moon Water  Container: Select a clear, glass or crystal container for your Moon water. The container should be clean and free from any contaminants especially if you plan to drink the water. If you can only get clear plastic etc that is fine.
  • Setting the Stage: Find a quiet, sacred space outdoors where you can place your container. The new Moon phase is the ideal time to connect with the Moon’s energy, as it represents new beginnings and fresh intentions. If you don’t have access to outside space then you can store your Moon water on a shelf or window sill so it can bask in the Moonlight.
  • Fill Your Container: Pour your chosen water into the container and make sure that it is sealed tight so no little nasties get in there! [Optional] You can also add herbs and other ingredients to help flavour the water and/or build the intent.
  • Select Your Crystal [optional]: Placing a crystal by your water can infuse it with additional energy. Quartz crystals are versatile and work well for most intentions, but you can choose one that resonates with your specific goal. PLEASE NOTE: Putting crystals in the water is risky so please don’t do this or check with an expert before you do if you plan to consume the water.
  • Set Your Intentions: As you place your container in the Moonlight, focus on your intentions for this Moon water. What do you want to manifest in your life? Visualise this goal and set the water with your intent/manifestation. [Optional] You can write down on a piece of paper your goals and leave by the Moon water to set your intent and/or you can read aloud your intentions when placing your water in it’s charging location. I like to use music to get me into the magickal head space as well.
  • Leave It to Charge: Leave the container under the Moonlight for the entire night, ideally from the moment the new Moon is visible until dawn. We all have different life and sleep patterns so these times may vary.
  • Retrieve Your Moon Water: When you wake up, collect your container. Your Moon water is now charged with the energy of the new Moon and your intentions.

Now,  it’s time to use that Moon water to make some magick and there are plenty of ways to use Moon water in your practice.

The Witchy Uses of Moon Water

Now that you’ve crafted yourself some snazzy lil’  Moon water, let’s explore the fascinating ways you can integrate it into your witchcraft. We’ll go more in depth into these ways in further posts but for a general idea:

Spellwork and Rituals: Moon water is a versatile ingredient in spellcasting. Use it to consecrate tools, anoint candles, or enhance the potency of your spells.

Cleansing and Purification: Sprinkle Moon water around your home to cleanse and purify the energy. You can also add a few drops to your bath for a spiritually refreshing experience.

Housework: If you really want to go all the way when it comes to purification and cleansing your space, you can even use Moon water in your housework and daily chores. Adding Moon water to a mix of water and salt is a fabulous cleanser for your floor. Mirror magic? Mixing Moon water with salt and vinegar is great for cleaning your mirrors which capture a lot of energy and can be powerful tools for spell work.

You could even use a larger container especially for the storaging of Moon water for use in cleansing your home throughout the cycle. Now, that is dedication!

Divination Enhancer: Dab Moon water on your third eye (forehead) before a tarot reading or scrying session to enhance your intuitive abilities. You could also do this before bed to encourage psychic dreams.

Meditation Aid: Sip a small amount of Moon water before meditation or bedtime  to help you connect with your inner self and the lunar energies.

Dream Magic: Place a glass of Moon water on your nightstand to encourage lucid and vivid dreaming. Some witches believe it aids in dream interpretation. Putting Moon water on your pulse points before bed can also encourage intuitive dreams.

Anointing Tools: Dip your wand, or other magical tools in Moon water to enhance their magical potency. Also great for jewellery and other magical apprael.

Blessing and Protection: Create a protective circle by sprinkling Moon water around your sacred space before rituals or spellcasting.

When is the next New Moon?

The next New Moon is 15th September 2023 and will be in Virgo. This is the best time to set your intentions due to it being the last New Moon before Eclipse Season kick starts from 14th October. Eclipses can be chaotic so I don’t personally manifest during time (I learn from my mistakes!) so I use this time to plant the seeds and build the foundations of what I am manifesting before taking a lil break until after eclipse season ends on the 28th Oct.

The remaining New Moons for 2023 are:

14th October 2023

  • New Moon – New Hunter’s Moon

13th November 2023

  • New Moon – New Beaver Moon

12th December 2023

  • New Moon – New Cold Moon

Have I  inspired you to make moon water or use it in a different way? I hope so and as always we’d love to hear here from you at Digital Coven HQ so let us know in the below comments or via socials.

Enquiries? We’ve created this magick little contact form here for enquires and questions.

Everyday Witchcraft – Tea Magick Supplies: Rose Tea Sets.

Due to popular demand, here is where Bunnypudding gets her teaware from…

Well hello there Coven, I’ve been pretty active over on my Tiktok and Instagram recently making lots of fabulous everyday witchcraft and lifestyle content and well, I hate to say this but the breakout star of my labour isn’t me. Oh no, it’s my bloody Rose Enamel Glass Tea Pot that I treated myself to as a moving in present.

Here she is in all of her glory. I call her Roseline after my grandmother and well, it has a bloody rose on it and some days I am more creative than others.

I’ve been asked about where I get my supplies and homewares on my videos and DMs so here is the list of kitchenware items used in my April Social Videos below. Some of the items are from different stores so if you are looking for a specific colour click the link below the picture 🙂

Of course, I will also be sharing recipes and how to’s for my tea blends in another post so watch this space (or check out my social media!)

Please note that there are some affiliate links on the copy on this page, this means that I get a commission for any purchases made via this post.

Tea Pots and Tea Pots Sets:

You can get my stunning rose tea pot in either red (Picture above) or blue. I am not going to lie, I want them all. It’s an issue, it really is.

One thing I need to stress though is that the tea pot is pretty small, so great for those who want to make one or two cups for tea or herbal spellwork but not so good if you are want to pour for several people at the same time. Great excuse to get two, otherwise, pay heed!

This is a rare set to get cheap, thus why I haven’t had it yet as these weren’t on offer when I was getting mine. I am truly gutted about this fact but it is also why I have two links below as I am sure they will be gone pretty quick.

So I have listed the options for the blue and red designs below. They are honestly so beautiful and so much fun. Leave me to my life of staying at home drinking tea out of my fancy cups.

Why Bayleaf is Bae – The Magickal properties of Bayleaf

Bayleaf is one of the ultimate Magickal herbs, find out why!

My mother was obsessed with Bay leaf – it was put into everything she made when and it was quite common for me as a child to accidentally eat it whenever I ate her cooking. This didn’t put me off, although I certainly don’t recommend eating it! This early introduction created a strong bond between me and bay leaf and it’s one of the most common herbs that I use when it comes to magick and Kitchen Witchery. Below are some really useful insights into how you can use Bay leaf in your Witchcraft and spell work.

Wet aand Dry Bay leaf

Bayleaf magickal properties:

Bayleaf is one of those core magickal herbs that has so many uses and works well when used with other ingredients but it can also be extremely powerful when just used on it own. It would certainly be top of the list in my Baby Witch beginner stock cupboard recommendations. Some of it’s key attributes are:

  • Victory and success – Bayleaf laurel was used in victory crowns and also by deities such as Apollo
  • Love
  • Wealth and Abundance
  • Protection
  • Creativity
  • Psychic abilities
  • Wishing and manifestation
  • Good health and healing

When doing deeper spell work here is some key info on Bay leafs other associations:

Zodiac: Bay laurel is governed by the planet Sun and under the dominion of the sign Leo

Deities: Apollo, Daphne, Gaia and Peneus (Greek)

Planet: Sun

M/F: Whilst I don’t really follow this in my craft (Queer Witch right here, honey!) traditionally it’s associated with the divine Male.

Bayleaf in Kitchen Witchery

As previously mentioned on this blog, Kitchen Witchcraft is one of the simplest ways to bring the craft into your everyday life. I mean, we all have to eat right? So making sure that you add your herbs with intent when you are making your daily meals can be incredibly powerful, as you are literally taking the magic within you. Nice!

Quick Kitchen Witch Spells:

Want to Cleanse yourself-  Boiling anything such as veg or pasta? Add salt and Bay leaf to the water with intent and stir anti-clockwise to banish negative energies and stir clockwise to bring positive energies towards yourself. It’s that simple!

Sauces, stocks and gravies – I don’t know about you but I add a lot of herbs to my cooking so when I am making anything sauce-based I like to make sure that I include some herbs with magickal intent to help me with whatever spell or thing I am manifesting. I always make sure to add an intent for each Bayleaf that I add. Making sure to stir and visualise what I am working towards.

Bay leaf in Mulled wine

Mulled Wine and Cider – A lovely way to get some extra magick into your life with an added boozy kick. I like to add Bay leaf to any mulled wine or hot toddies that I make and the smell is devine!

Quick Spells to use Bayleaf:

Cleansing your space: Add Bay leaf to your mix of cleansing herbs depending on your practice. Personally, like to use Bay leaf, Lavender and Rosemary to cleanse my space as it smells lovely. Just roll them into a bunch that you can burn safely, or in a fireproof bowl and burn as a magickal Potpourri. Never leave unattended, ever. Trust me on this one 😉

Manifesting Money:

  • Get a Bay leaf and hold it close, envision the money that you wish to attract and how soon you need it by.
  • You have to visualise this as if it has already happened making sure to really envision how you will feel when you receive this money and all the things that you will do with it.
  • Then write your intent and the financial amount onto the Bay leaf and burn. You can use any colour pen but if you have Silver or Gold marker I would recommend using this to further highlight your goals.

Success: The ancient Greeks used to use Laurels and ay leaves on crowns for sports winners as they were associated with success. Bay leaves can also be great for protection, so I like to carry one around with me in my purse wherever I go.

Victors Crown

Protection: Ground up alongside eggshells, Bay leaf can be used as protection dust to be sprinkled by your windows and door frames or when casting a circle. I’ve also been working on a project with Thatdressupmood where we add this dust to jewellery to give it extra protection properties. You can add salt to it for extra protection properties but make sure not to use it on the ground if you do as Salt can damage the soil.

Simple connection cutting spell: If you wish to cut the cord with someone a great spells which you can do daily if required is to take a Bay leaf, visualise the person you wish to cut the cord with, set the intent into the leaf and then break up the leaf to signify the breaking up of the connection with this person and then burn the Bayleaf to release the energy. I personally love doing this when I am anxious as well, envisioning having that power over the negative feelings really helps me feel empowered.

Sleep time Psychic enhancement: I like to use a Bayleaf under my pillow to help with my dreams and with astral projection. I mix it with lavender and put it in a little pouch that is stored in my pillowcase. Sweet dreams, indeed!

In conclusion:

So, have I inspired you in the powers of Bayleaf – or have you always been using it in your spellwork? Let me know below or on the digital coven social channels as we’d love to keep the conversation going!

Witchcraft – Cleansing 101

North London Witch discusses all things cleansing in todays post!

Cleansing, probably the first thing you should start practicing on your journey to witchcraft. In fact, the most common question I get on TikTok is ‘how do I cleanse’ (even though I have already shown the process half the time…)

If you’re the kind of person who dreads cleaning the house, it isn’t necessarily just that. I HATE the build up to the Big Clean because, as much as I potter around to sort my flat out, sometimes you have *a day* and that day means all the shit just builds up. All those used mugs with tea stains getting worse because you’d rather use the same mug over and over again than even contemplate washing up, the floordrobe (admit it, you have one too) or the fact you can’t remember the last time you got off your arse to run the hoover round can all impact your energy. You’ll feel it as well as see it. It will drain you, make you sad and even make the very air around you feel heavy.

Cleansing however, I look forward to and do it in little ways most days. Even if I don’t have the spoons to do the pile of dishes my boyfriend hasn’t touched, I can still make the energy around me feel better. Plus, cleansing feels witchy AF.

And there is more than one way to do it, whether you’re in the Broom Closet or out in the open. You can make it ceremonial, or you can just make it part of your normal routine. Adding an extra step while you put your face on as the time is always there. Eventually you’ll find a way that works for you and you will never be more satisfied.

Cleansing with Incense

We will all reach the point in our journey where our incense collection is out of control. I’m actually on an incense ban until I use what I have because, to quote my boyfriend, ‘there is no space left in my hippy drawer’. Cleansing is the best way to get through the horde.

Each kind of incense has a different purpose when you put your intention into it. Sandalwood and Dragon’s Blood are my favourites for cleansing my space and tools. If you need a bit more like, adding a soothing energy as you are under so much stress you might explode, use lavender. If you can feel you need a bit of self-care or self-love, crack out the rose.

Incense also gets bonus points for being a way to cleanse your spell jars, cauldrons and even your tarot deck

Cleansing sprays

This is one of my more ceremonial ones… around the New Moon (fresh chapter time), I like to make a simmer pot. Mate, does it feel fucking witchy.

I have a dedicated saucepan specifically for this. It’s a charity shop Le Creuset. It’s cast iron, well worn, a bit dented. My little kitchen cauldron, that’s also a little bit middle class… even though it cost me £5 instead of £150 (for a fucking pan).

Light up a candle for your ancestors, grab your kitchen cauldron and a small heat proof dish, and follow the below:

Ingredients:

  1. Moon water (as much as you like)
  2. 400ml of tap water
  3. 2 sliced lemons
  4. Dried lavender (or essential oil if easier)
  5. Cloves
  6. Cinnamon sticks
  7. Sage
  8. Rosemary
  9. Salt
  10. Ice

First, place your heatproof dish in the middle of the saucepan. Layer your ingredients around said pot (I usually do so anti-clockwise to banish negative energy), add both waters and pop your saucepan lid on UPSIDE DOWN.

Add the ice to the centre of the upside down saucepan and keep it topped up while you simmer your little potion for around 15 minutes. This will help create condensation and the distilled liquid will drop into the heatproof dish. This will be your cleansing spray!

Once the 15 minutes are up, leave to cool and then pour your distilled liquid from the heatproof dish into a spray bottle. I spray mine in each of the 4 corners of a room clockwise each day. So I don’t waste all that sexy cleansing energy, I’ll use the remaining ingredients and liquid in a ritual bath that evening. *chefs kiss*

Sound Cleansing

Imagine a hadouken… or a Force punch… or even Bombarda. (Yes, I have all of the nerdy references). Sound can act like a physical shield to push negative energies away and protect you from them. Probably the best method for a Closet Witch. You can use whatever you want. Whether you walk through every room with a singing bowl, blast music that makes you happy at full volume or even just clapping a lot and telling whatever you don’t want there to piss off. Whatever works for you. Sometimes, I play musical soundtracks…

Smoke cleansing

Probably the most well known and you can use anything you like. I like to dry my own little bundles (you can just lay your ingredients on a radiator for 24 hours then wrap with twine) but you can also buy bundles easily off Etsy.

There are also lots of different kinds you can use, my favourites are Garden Sage, Rosemary and Heather. Just like with incense, you just spark it up and walk around your space with your intention clear in your mind. Bam, cleansed space in 5 minutes.

So, the TLDR is not only is cleansing easy and fun, there are lots of different ways to do it. Find what works for you and even if you only do it once a month, you’ll be amazed by the difference.

How do you cleanse your space? Let us know in the comments below or via our social channels as we love to share knowledge. Also, make sure to follow AJ AKA North London Witch over on her social channels for more Witchcraft advice.

Easy ‘Kitchen Witchery’ for beginner baby witches

Some simple spells to get you started in your kitchen witch journey!

One of my favourite types of witchcraft that I like to do and is great for beginners is kitchen witchery.

It’s something that can be done everyday and that you can share with your loved ones. Below are some simple spells you can do with everyday items that can be found in your kitchen. Nice.

Make Moon Water

This is a great place to start learning intent and working with the moon and it is so simple to get started. Moon water is a great ingredient for all magick spell work that you may be planning in the future but you can just do it as a monthly exercise to start.

Moon water on alter

What you will need:

  • A clear container for water
  • Water

You can add herbs and crystals etc into the mix later but let’s keep it simple for the purpose of this post

When?

Full Moon. (Next one January 28th ‘The Wolf Moon”)

On the Full Moon, fill your container with water and think of your intentions which you wish to receive for the next month – maybe to find new job opportunities or to attract love or wealth. When you fill the container take another few minutes to really visualise this intent as if it was fact. Literally manifest it into reality. Once you have set your intentions you can then place the water outside to bask in the Moonlight until the next morning.

This water can then be consumed there and then, or saved to be used for recipes and spells when required. It is also great to use for cleansing sprays and beauty magic as well.

I’ll do a larger posts on Moon Water in the next few weeks as you can really make the ceremony super charged – any areas you want me to cover, let me know!

bayleaves and pepper

Bay Leaf intention setting and banishing

Bayleaf is one of my favourite herbs, it’s so versatile an ingredient and has amazing magickal properties as well. In fact, as well as putting in food and for manifesting like mentioned below you can also put it under your pillow to help with your dreams and connect with your psychic abilities. Nice!

For intention setting and negativity banishing it’s also packs a punch and here is a quick spell:

You will need:

  • Bayleaf
  • Pen
  • A fire proof bowl
  • Matches

When?

Can be done any time but I usually use certain moon phases to help empower my magic. It’s great to set intentions on the New Moon and to ‘let go’ or “banish’ certain energies on the Full Moon.

How?

Write what you wish to gain/banish on the bay leaf and then once ready, burn the bayleaf in the fireproof bowl. The smoke will release the intent into the ether and et voila! Your intent has been given to the universe. The universe has your back, daring!

bayleaf chillie thyme and mixed herbs

Dinner Magick

I love cooking and I adore cooking for others which is why this is the most common type of magic I do. The main dishes that I make which are:

  • Stews
  • Curries
  • Pasta sauces such as Ragu and Bolognese
  • Chillies
  • Soups

But honestly you can use any recipe and tweak it to suit, and that is what I love about witchcraft, as you practice more you develop your own spells and processes.

chillie garlic bayleaf cumin pepper and spices

The reasons I like these recipes (Other than the fact that the are tasty) is that they naturally involve a lot of herbs and ingredients which witches use in their non kitchen spells:

  • Basil
  • Oregano
  • Bay leaf
  • Cinnamon
  • Chilli
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Garlic
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • etc….

As you add each item to the dish make sure to imagine your intent for each ingredient and as you stir make sure to visualise your goals for the spell. Leave it to simmer – I like to stew all my recipes for several hours to really add depth of flavour and of course so it works it’s magick at same the time. Continue to regularly stir it making sure to stir anti clock wise to banish energy and stir clock wise to bring forward energy that you wish to bring towards you, always making sure to keep your intent clear as you do so. Once it’s ready (And I am the sort of cook where it is never truly ready but people have got to eat!) I dish it up and share out. A great way to self care and bring some magick literally inside you at the same time.

spaghetti bolognese

Now, I don’t about you but I am hungry!  Do you do any kitchen witchery, if so what sort? I’d love to exchange spells and recipes so make sure to let me know below or on our social channels.
